Afalador, es la persona que arrea las reses. En los tiempos d'endenantes (antes), cuando no había medios de trasladar los ganados de una feria o mercado a otro, los tratantes de gran escala, contrataban para arrear sus ganados a profesionales afalaores, que conducían las manadas o rebaños de ganados, desde los mercados donde habían sido comprados, hasta los mataderos, o de una feria a otra. Por ejemplo, si había un mercado u feriona importante en Quirós, los tratantes compraban en él los ganados, los marcaban con sus hierros, y sus afaladores llevaban a las reses hasta un prado o cercado próximo a la feria, que con anterioridad habían arrendado los tratantes para tal menester. Luego, una vez que ya había finalizado la feria, los diestros afaladores, muy conocedores de su oficio, colocaban un zumbu (cencerro) a la res que ellos consideraban con más fuerza y poder de toda la manada, y después conducían el rebaño donde su dueño lo ordenare.
